Dental Care:

Teeth are one of the main components that add volume to our facial beauty. Smile is one of the treasure assets of a human body. Beautiful smile is God gifted and it is our duty to uphold the proper dental value. Brushing and flossing tips are general guidelines, but one should consult a dental hygienist to ensure further steps if any dental problem persists long. Some of the dental care tips are as follows:

Brushing Tips
  • Use a soft bristled brush with rounded, synthetic bristles. Look for the approval seal of American Dental Association. Replace your toothbrush approximately every two to three months, or positively when the bristles are worn or bent. A worn-out toothbrush does not clean the teeth properly, and may injure your gums internally. You should also replace your toothbrush after having a cold.
  • Be sure your brush is the one with right size, the smaller is better than larger ones. Place the bristles at a 45 degree angle to the line of gums and slide the tips of the brush under the gums properly. Gently shake the bristles or move it in small circular movements over the tooth and gums.
  • Brush the outside and the inside of the chewing surfaces of your teeth. For chewing surfaces, use a light back and forth motion. For the front teeth, it is better to brush the inside surfaces of the upper and lower jaws; tilt your brush vertically and carry on with several strokes up and down with the front part of the brush over the teeth and gum tissues.
  • Brushing your tongue helps to avoid bad breathe. Debris and bacteria can accumulate on your tongue and cause bad breath. Since your toothbrush will only clean one or two teeth at a time, frequently its position should be changed to clean each tooth properly.
  • Brush at least twice every day, preferably at bedtime and morning. Adding a brush time after breakfast increases helps in plaque removal. Take your time for thorough brushing that take at least 3 minutes.
  • Don't brush your teeth too vigorously with a hard bristled toothbrush, since it causes the gums to damage and exposes root surfaces. It also wears down the tooth structure. Both of these conditions can lead to tooth problems.
  • A pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste is preferable for brushing. Replace your brush when the bristles begin to spread around, as a worn out toothbrush will not properly clean your teeth.
Flossing Tips
Wrap about 18 inches of floss around each of the middle fingers of your hands and hold it tightly using your thumbs and forefingers. First guide it gently between your teeth and don't "snap" the floss as this can cut the gums. When the floss reaches the gum line, coil it into a C-shape against one tooth and gently slide it within the space between the gum and the tooth until you can feel the pressure against the tooth.

Other oral health care tips
  • Use an interdental cleaner, such as a dental pick and dental stick, which are specially designed to clean between your teeth.
  • Use a mouth rinse to help reduce bad breathe and plaque between your teeth.
  • Use oral irrigators, which allow a stream of water flowing at your teeth to remove food particles.
  • Don't use toothpicks or other objects that may damage your teeth or gums.
  • Further oral health problems should be to reported to your dentist
