The life of Mariah Carey is like a fairy tale. As a young girl Mariah was determined to make her mark and earn a lot of fame. Her passion towards creating music drove her to the big city. She began singing everywhere she could.
One evening she decided to meet the President of Sony Music Entertainment, Tommy Mottola, and give him her CD. Soon after she was gone Tommy Mottola played the CD and was astonished by her music sense. He started looking for her. Finally when they met they fell in love instantly.
Mariah Carey’s father was a Venezuelan-African, who was an aeronautical engineer and her mother was Irish, who was an opera singer cum vocal coach. Due to tremendous family pressure, Mariah’s parents divorced when she was 3 years old. Mariah’s elder sister moved on to stay with her father and her elder brother went to pursue his higher studies. She was left to stay with her mother who faced a lot of challenges to bring her up.
Mariah Carey’s talent was discovered first by her mother who was a singer by profession. She started coaching her at home since when she was a child. She started performing in family gatherings. Soon she started writing songs and took part in talent hunts and folk-music festivals. In 1987, after completing her graduation Mariah Carey went to Manhattan to learn music from professionals. She worked as a waitress, beauty salon janitor, coat checker and part-time backup singer to pay the rent of her apartment.
Mariah Carey’s first album was released in 1990, which became immensely popular. Over six million copies of the album were sold making Mariah a star. She was also awarded Grammy for her debut album.
